Join us for an exciting evening under the stars as we enjoy a hike lit by the full moon.
This season, we have four amazing locations for you to take in the iconic views of the valley:
Mount Stratton, Northfield MA — With spectacular views of peaks and mountains in every direction—Mount Grace, Mount Ascutney, Mount Wachusett, Mount Monadnock, and myriad smaller hills, Richardson Overlook is a great place to watch the moon rise over the New England countryside.
Mount Holyoke Range, Amherst MA — We'll start our hike at the new Kestrel Land Trust headquarters located at the foot of the beautiful Mount Holyoke Range, where we will climb for approximately an hour and a half before arriving to the top of Norwottuck. Once there, we will stop to take in the spectacular views and watch the moon rise over the Pelham Hills. Returning to the trailhead, we will have the unique opportunity to take in the sights and sounds of the forest at night, guided by the light of the moon. Note: If conditions are slippery or icy, the hike will proceed to Rattlesnake Knob.
Peaked Mountain, Monson MA — This beautiful hike with gradual elevation is a perfect way to enjoy the full moon. With panoramic views of the Connecticut River Valley, the summit of Peaked Mountain is a great place to watch the moon rise over the New England countryside. And like the Norwottuck hike, the descent offers excellent opportunities to take in the sights and sounds of the forest from a unique perspective at night. If you're closer to Springfield, this Monson location may be just right for you!
Notchview, Windsor MA - Of our four locations, this hike is our most gentle. Located in the Berkshires, our hike at Notchview offers mostly flat terrain with beautifully groomed trails nestled among red spruce and northern hardwood forest land. Perfect for woodland wanderers, this is a great spot to watch the full moon rise under a blanket of stars.
SPECIAL HOLIDAY HIKE - Join us for an exciting evening under the stars as we enjoy a hike lit by the full moon. This is a beautiful two-hour hike through the Northfield State Forest. The hike passes by a beautiful pond, gorgeous in the moonlight. The views from the top are spectacular with Mt Monadnock, Mt Grace and Mt Wachusett visible in the distance. Once at the highest point we will gather around the fire to share some holiday cheer, warm beverages and tasty treats while we gaze upon the rising full moon. After the full moon viewing party, we will shuttle you back down the mountain to your vehicles. This date is a special full moon that will rise directly between Mt Grace and Monadnock. This is an adventure not to be missed!
