What to Expect

This beginner-focused session introduces you to the essential skills of outdoor rock climbing. After a safety briefing and gear overview, you’ll learn how to fit a harness, tie key knots, and understand the basic climbing system. Guides will demonstrate footwork, body positioning, and movement on rock before you put the skills into practice on beginner routes. The day balances hands-on learning with plenty of climbing time and personalized coaching.

Who This Trip Is For

Perfect for first-time climbers or those transitioning from indoor climbing to outdoor settings. Participants should be comfortable with light physical activity and eager to learn basic technical skills. No prior climbing experience is required.

Location & Route

Where: Outdoor climbing areas in Western Massachusetts selected for safety and beginner access.
Route: A series of introductory top-rope climbs on natural rock, chosen to match group ability and comfort level.
Pace & Timing: A steady mix of instruction, demonstration, and active climbing, with breaks for coaching and questions.

What to Bring

  • Personal clothing appropriate for the weather. There is a fair amount of standing around, so consider bringing layers to stay comfortably when you’re not climbing.
  • Lunch, snacks, water.

  • We do not supply climbing shoes
  • this is a four-hour course
