Women's Ski Touring

Come explore some of the best backcountry skiing in Southern New England with a group of like-minded, supportive, and fun women! Join us in creating a community that celebrates every little victory and the joy of being in the mountains together. These adventures, guided by our knowledgeable backcountry ski guide, Gretchen Klens, focus on the necessary skills and techniques of backcountry skiing and alpine touring, with an emphasis on our joy, empowerment, play, and nudging our comfort zones just enough for it to feel satisfying.

These lessons will cover the following topics, catered to your group's needs/desires:

Putting skins on your skis

Efficient movement: How to move efficiently and transition between touring and downhill skiing

Removing, folding, and storing your skins

Downhill techniques for skiing in the backcountry

These tours are not learn-to-ski classes; you should already know how to ski on intermediate/ advanced trails that are not groomed. One of the exciting parts of backcountry skiing is the variety of conditions and terrain. You’ll gain an appreciation for many different features and snow conditions. *We will not be traveling in avalanche terrain.

We welcome all female-identifying humans!

TOURING SKIS:

We are the only shop in Western Mass with ski touring setups for rent! Ski rental is included in the price of your AT lesson. This is a great way to try an AT setup before you buy.

We have a fleet of Fischer Transalp alpine touring skis in our gear inventory! The Transalp’s construction provides a lightweight touring ski with just the right amount of stiffness for turning in all the wonderful snow conditions found in New England’s backcountry and slackcountry. If you’ve ever considered touring as an alternative to busy resorts, you can now explore alpine touring with Adventure East before investing in your own equipment.
